from lofty windows,
the faintest sound.
i hear laughter
from a place that i am not allowed.
through crooked hallways
and vacant rooms,
we were promised
a chance to start anew.

once constant chatter
filled my days,
then this aching silence,
came to take its place.
but after tonight,
there's those to blame.
time will show us
why tomorrow never came.

they took the world, in their arms,
and bent it out of shape.
what we had, what it cost,
what can’t be replaced!

clear in hindsight,
after tonight.

recollections
turned me blind.
trusting powers that
all our pain was justified.
